Newcastle took control of its own future when it incorporated in 1994. At that time, the city’s population was 7,000. Newcastle’s population has grown to over 10,000 people, and the city’s amenities continue to grow as well.
The city maintains an extensive parks and trail system, and Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park and other natural areas are just minutes away. The Newcastle Golf Club attracts visitors from throughout the Puget Sound region, and many other businesses are thriving within Newcastle. The city’s downtown core is beginning to take shape as a pedestrian friendly urban village.
City officials, staff and Newcastle citizens continue efforts to maintain the city’s unique character and exceptional quality of life. Expanding access to transit, pathways and other non-motorized means of transportation continue to be a city priority. Newcastle is a beautiful city filled with a great mix of small town charm, big city access and distinct neighborhoods and open spaces.
