After an extensive process, the City of Newcastle established its vision for how the city will grow and develop for the next 20 years when it adopted the Newcastle 2035 Comprehensive Plan on March 15, 2016. The plan will guide decision-making to ensure steady progress towards achieving the city's desired future. It represents the work of Newcastle Planning Commissioners, the City Council and city staff and direct participation from members of the community.
The city has updated Newcastle's Comprehensive Plan to align with changes in regional policies and state planning requirements under the Growth Management Act, since the Comprehensive Plan was first adopted in 2003.
Newcastle also provides the public or city an opportunity to request changes to the Comprehensive Plan. The scope of this optional Comprehensive Plan amendment is established annually. To learn how to propose an amendment, please contact the City of Newcastle's Planning Division.
