The City of Newcastle and Grand Presenting Sponsor, the Coal Creek YMCA, are thrilled to announce our 2009 “Concerts in the Park” series at Lake Boren Park.

6 exciting concerts are planned every Wednesday from July 8 through August 12.  Set within an expansive 20-acre landscape, residents, friends, neighbors & dogs (on-leash) can come enjoy an evening of beauty & sound.

Location: Lake Boren Park [Google Directions]
Time: 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Scheduled artists include:

July 8: HiWatt (Current Rock/Acoustic): A local 5 piece Classic and Modern Rock cover band that plays songs from the 70's, 80's, 90's and Current rock hits from today. Hard, over-driven guitars, thundering drums splashed with some great vocals and topped off with non-stop energy to form some great danceable music. Presented by: the Animal Hospital of Newport Hills

July 15: Cody Rentas Band (Classic Guitar Rock): This band is centered around an amazing and talented young man on guitar. Cody Rentas started playing at the age of 6 and has progressed over the years with the help of many wonderful and talented musicians. His playing and his smile are so intoxicating that you can't help but be drawn in. This young man is backed by a very talented and accomplished group of musicians.

July 22: The Senate (Rock & Roll String Band): The members’ diverse backgrounds in music ranging from Afro-pop to heavy metal to musical theater proved to be an asset as they began to develop their sound. Using acoustic guitars, an upright bass and three voices, the Senate began writing nuanced and aggressive music grounded in polyrhythmic grooves, three-part vocal harmonies and a heavily percussive playing style. The Senate’s songs range from simple and introspective to driving and chaotic.

July 29: Timeless Soul (Motown): This Seattle-based vintage Motown Sound Review vocal group began in 1995 when local voices were brought together for a major fundraising event. The group began with the name Solid Gold Soul, opening up for Seattle's Main Attraction and The Shirelles. Their trademark harmony evolved into the timeless sound that entertains us today.

August 5: Black Velvet 4 (Classic Rock/Blues): Together they perform quality dance tunes with great vocal harmony and musical flair. Their main focus is Classic Rock and Blues yet they can cover many styles of music. Roger's guitar playing is among the finest in the Northwest and beyond. Christy's soulful singing has excited audiences everywhere and her unique keyboard style adds to it. Martin's vocals and colorful bass playing are wonderful. Brad locks it all together with a smooth solid beat and a smile.

August 12: Idol Eyez (Party Rock): A high energy, entertaining cover band that plays favorite current hits of 2K, as well as old favorites from 70s, 80s, and 90s, pop, rock, alternative, dance and disco, including hits by popular artists like Gwen, Justin Timberlake, Fergie, Timbaland, Madonna, and Def Leppard to name a few, making Idol Eyez your ultimate top 40 dance/rock/party band. Something for everyone!
